Viva Gesu Viva Maria, a Sampler of Italy - Sampler Reproduction Pattern by Cross Stitch Antiques
The sampler is representative of an Italian sampler style, as evidenced by the existence of other similar Italian samplers, done in rows of alphabets, numbers and spot motifs in red thread on coarse loosely woven linen. Four sets of alphabets are stitched in the lower left which personalize the sampler, but sadly do not reveal the identity of the stitcher. It is adorned with numerous Christian motifs and symbols including seven crosses flanking the left side and seven alphabets. Find out what all the motifs and symbolisms mean included on the chart.
