Sarah Elizabeth Miller 1868 Sampler - Cross Stitch Pattern by Giulia Punti Antichi
This beautiful sampler, belonging to the private collection of Giulia Manfredini, was originally stitched by Sarah Elizabeth Miiller in 1868 at the age of 11. Giulia purchased this sampler in England many years ago. From its back it was possible to see the beautiful unfaded and vibrant colors of the original silk threads!
Sarah Elizabeth Miiller stitched her original 1868 sampler with vibrant silk threads and she depicted a myriad of motifs scattered throughout the sampler including flowers, vases with fruits or flower arrangements, and alphabets.
The upper rows, composed of two floral borders, are followed by “Sarah Elizabeth Miiller Aged 11 Years 1868”. In the following section Elizabeth stitched floral plants and large vases with flowers and fruits.
In the center of the sampler Sarah Elizabeth Miiller stitched four stanzas of a gospel written by Charles Wesley (1707-1788): “Hide me, O my Savior hide, Till the storm of life is past, Safe into the haven guide, O receive my soul at last.” The lower part of the sampler is full of tall plants and vases, birds and crowns stitched in bright colorful colors. A simple floral border provides a gentle frame for the sampler.
