Sally Stansfield 1841 ~ Reproduction Sampler Pattern by Hands Across the Sea Samplers

Sally is an ideal companion piece for the very popular Mary Clayton.

In researching family history records we found three possible Sally Stansfields: Sally daughter of William and Grace who was christened on December 1^st, 1833 at Cross Stone, Stansfield, Yorkshire; Sally daughter of George, a cotton twister, and Grace born in Stansfield in 1834; and Sally daughter of Henry, a weaver, and his wife Nancy Pickles born on June 26^th 1834 in the small hamlet of Colden Water and baptised at Mount Zion General Baptist Chapel in Hepstonstall Slack, Yorkshire.

Sally’s sweet sampler has been reproduced with Au Ver à Soie d’Alger silks and the skein quantities calculated based on 1 strand on 36ct fabric. We have provided conversions for DMC based on 2 strands on 36ct linen. The model was stitched on Weeks over-dyed Zweigart in the colour Straw using the mellowed colours found on the front of the original sampler today. The original sampler measures approximately 15 x 14 inches.

 ** If stitching on 46ct or higher you may wish to substitute 100.3 no: 313 for 1423 to execute the Queen stitches and 100.3 no: 696 for 3416 for the verse which is cross stitch over 1 linen thread.
