Hannah stitched her sampler in Ireland (the name BallyPallady appears on the sampler) and dated it August 12, 1838.

Hannah's sampler has been reproduced using a palette of 18 colours carefully matched to the colours found on the front of the sampler.

The model was stitched using Soie 100/3 and one spool of Accentuate metallic thread.

Hannah executed her sampler predominantly with cross stitches over one and two threads as well as Algerian eyelets and rice stitch.  The sampler is suitable for intermediate through to advanced needleworks.  However it is not beyond a determined beginner.

Hannah's sampler would not be suitable for stitching on Aida due to the over one cross stitches and specialty stitches.

You can choose to purchase the booklet on it's own and use your stash for fabric and threads or choose a kit from the options below.  If you would like a kit please add each item to the cart (chart, fabric choice and threads)  Please read carefully the options for threads for each count of fabric.

Choices of linen: all will have a 3" border on each side unless stated otherwise

Zweigart Antique Ivory in : 28, 32 count 

Legacy Linen 'Irish Coffee' in 38 count, 'Thai Iced Tea' in 45 count (custom cuts)

Lakeside Linen in 'Vintage Sand Dune' in 36, 40 count - currently waiting on more linen.  

(36 count has a minimum border on the width of 2.5" and 3" on the length)

Fox and Rabbit linen in Hogbristle or Weeks Dye Works in Parchment would also work well for this design.

Choosing fabric & Threads

It is suggested that you choose your fabric first, then choose the appropriate thread with the appropriate quantity for the fabric that you have chosen.

DMC floss – a good choice for any of the fabrics offered.  Please be sure to choose the appropriate quantity of skeins from the drop down menu above for the fabric that you are ordering.

Soie d’Alger silk thread – best choice for 36 count and 40 count linen when using a single strand.   For 28 and 32 count linen using 2 strands.

Soie 100/3 silk thread – best choice for 46 or 56 count linen.  Can also be used on 40 count linen but the coverage will be a bit sparse.  Some people do choose to use this on 36 count linen as well with sparser coverage.

Soie Surfine may be preferred for higher counts of fabric. You will need:  2156, 2486, 2494, 2537, 2562, 2673 & 2773 and as this is a personal option, needs to be purchased separately
For the over 1 stitching over 40 count you can use either 100/3 or Surfine.

Linen Sizes

The design area is 233 stitches (w) x 289 stitches (h). Our calculations have included a 3″ margin for finishing and framing. We recommend that you use a count and fabric that you enjoy working with. However, some linens to consider are Legacy Linen’s Irish Coffee in 38 count, Thai Iced Tea in 45 count, Zweigart Antique Ivory, Lakeside Linen in Vintage Sand Dunes (model was stitched on this one.

28ct linen: Design: 16.64″ x 20.64″ Fabric: 22.64″ x 26.64″

32ct linen: Design: 14.56″ x 18.06″ Fabric: 20.56″ x 24.06″

36ct linen: Design: 12.94″ x 16.06″ Fabric: 18.94″ x 22.06″
