Bertha Lausch 1891 - Reproduction Sampler Chart by Hands Across the Sea Samplers

Nicola has generously made this gorgeous sampler available for download now via our store.  The PDF will be available for you to download once payment has been accepted or you can choose a printed, spiral bound booklet to be mailed.

Bertha’s monochrome sampler has been reproduced using Soie 100.3 from Au Ver à Soie. We have provided conversions for Soie d’Alger and DMC. Estimated thread quantities for varying linen counts and the number of strands of thread used have been listed below.

Soie 100.3 #493 on 40ct to 56ct linen with 1 strand x 1

Soie d’Alger #2926 on 36ct to 46ct linen with 1 strand x 1, 32ct linen with 2 strands x 2, and 28ct linen with 2 strands x 3

DMC #3777 on 40ct to 46ct linen with 1 strand x 1 and on 28ct to 36ct linen with 2 strands x 2

Linen Sizes

The sampler can be worked on Aida or linen. The model was stitched using 56ct Zweigart-based linen that was overdyed to the shade Muddy Duck by Tabbycat Linen. The design area is 158 stitches (w) x 106 stitches (h). Our calculations have included a 3″ margin for finishing and framing.

28ct linen: Design: 11.29″ x 7.57″ Fabric: 17.29″ x 13.57″

32ct linen: Design: 9.88″ x 6.63″ Fabric: 15.88″ x 12.63″

36ct linen: Design: 8.78″ x 5.89″ Fabric: 14.78″ x 11.89″

40ct linen: Design: 7.90″ x 5.30″ Fabric: 13.90″ x 11.30″

46ct linen: Design: 6.87″ x 4.61″ Fabric: 12.87″ x 10.61″

56ct linen: Design: 5.64″ x 3.79″ Fabric: 11.64″ x 9.79″
