Those of you who have come into the brick & mortar shop in Sandy Bay have met my 4-legged companions, Boof the gentle German Shepherd and Sassy the adorable Pembroke corgi. Unfortunately back in August we lost Boof, he was 14 years old, stiff & slow, but we missed him terribly, as did Sassy his doggy sister. Here they are last summer at the dog beach in Kingston, Tasmania.
So, being dog lovers, my partner & I discussed another Shepherd, a Bernese mountain dog got serious consideration. Then out of the blue came a phone call from a lovely lady who had been told that we maybe looking for a corgi & she had a male, 4 month old, black & white Cardigan corgi, would we be interested? My response was "Yes!", of course, my partner's was a more considered "Perhaps".
Off we went to be vetted by the breeder, to meet the puppy and to introduce Sassy to her potential brother. All went well, we were approved, Sassy sort of approved in a big sister almost tolerant way and my partner fell in love....so here he is, Oscar, the latest 4-legged furry in our clan!
One of the nicest smells is gingerbread cooking or gingernut cookies after they have been dunked in my coffee. So when Canadian designer Victoria Sampler brought out the first of her stitched Gingerbread houses, I just couldn't resist. So added to my "Yet to be Done-but I am really" stash are:-
And there is another just out, The Gingerbread Bakery. What am I going to do?.......
I have promised myself that now that the website is up & running that I would spend each Friday afternoon going through a basket of charts and make sure that its contents were included on the website. Today, Friday 25th October was my first chance at this noble ambition...I chose the Mirabilia/Nora Corbett basket.
Nora Corbett (aka Mirabilia Designs) is one of the most popular designers of embellished cross stitch designs. Her recent design "Persephone" personifies her design philosophy, beautiful ladies dressed in elaborately draped gowns in a gorgeous setting. What you can't see from this image is the layering of metallic thread and beads that give the designs the glitter & glamour that attracts such a following. If you are ever in the shop the Mermaid hanging behind the counter is one of her designs.
Suffice to say that the demand for her patterns is endless, so imagine my surprise to find in the midst of the 100 or so charts, one sole remainder of my initial stock from way back when....Crescent Dreams.... dating from 1997!! Way before the incarnation of A Stitch in Time....in fact I am wondering where it came from as I really can't remember buying it. The next surprise was found face down on the bottom of the basket I'm so sorry, Lady, I didn't really mean to be disrespectful, but at least I have restored to your rightful place, upright & in numerical order. Did I mention I am an accountant in another life? Cherub-like babies, beautiful women and the Lady, have been filed, listed, annotated and added to the website. Go and have a look under "Mirabilia" in the catalogue and enjoy. Have a lovely weekend everyone.
A Stitch in Time is branching out...well, to be honest, I have fallen in love with the "Tilda" range of cotton fabrics, ribbons, buttons, wrapping papers, etc. To start with I am carrying their two latest ranges of 100% cotton fabrics - The Corner Shop and Sweet Christmas. These are now up & ready for sale on the website.
Tilda is a craft brand started by the Norwegian designer Tone Finnanger in 1999. Tilda is most known for the whimsical, comical and naive characters in the form of animals and dolls. Tilda's world is without a doubt a feminine one, and the most recognisable features are the faces, with two dots for eyes and rosy cheeks.
I am really excited to announce the new online presence for A Stitch in Time. Not only do we have a wonderful new online store design by the wonderful Kim Carruthers and her team at www.Echic.com.au but we also have a new web address www.astitchintime.net.au Hooray!!
The online shop is very much in its infancy, I have quite yet worked out how to sell you thread and some of the items don't have images attached, but it is coming. Next will be the newsletter! I look forward to your feedback on the website and hope that you are as excited as I am.
