This design was originally done as an annual ornament for the Mayflower Sampler Guild’s sampler restoration program and all proceeds from the sale of the 50 charted kits went to that purpose.
Please stitch the design according to the chart and not the picture of the finished piece on the cover. There are some small differences in the design that correspond to the Mayflower Rose Sewing Set, available as a separate chart. The ornament will be mounted on or in the lid of a Nantucket basket. Of course, you can stitch it as an ornament, frame it, etc.
All stitches are done using one strand of silk with the exception of the satin stitched flower petals - for those use two strands of silk. When stitching the over one section (ship and surrounding area), I recommend doing it in Tent Stitch, as it won’t look and feel quite so bulky, especially on the 40 ct. linen. An exception to this is the rope for the sails and the date - for those I used full crosses over one. Legend for silk: CCS - Classic Colorworks Silk (formerly Belle Soie) and NPI - Needlepoint, Inc.
