In 2024, I was fortunate to see an exhibit of such quilts at a museum. There was an amazing Broken Star quilt right at the entrance that just drew me in and I knew I wanted to try to capture its beauty in a cross stitch design. However, each of these squares is not made from cross stitches, but rather from straight stitches, backstitching, and various specialty stitches and patterns. This design does not fit neatly into a particular needlework category - some might call it a counted canvas work design, some might call it a blackwork design, some might call it \"just a bunch of specialty stitches\" - call it whatever you like!
